On Thursday, May 6, 2004, Detective Larry Congleton of the Oldham County Police Department was named the US Army Criminal Investigations Command's Special Agent of the Year. The award is presented for outstanding performance and accomplishments over the past year. The award distinguishes Detective Congleton from among all of the US Army CID Special Agents serving throughout the world. This was the first time in the Command's history that a reservist has won this award. Detective Congleton has been serving on Active Duty with the US Army Criminal Investigation Command since October 2002 in support of Operation Noble Eagle/Operation Enduring Freedom. Detective Congleton is assigned as a Special Agent to the Protective Services Unit in Washington, D.C. Detective Congleton serves as the Personal Security Officer to the Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and is tasked with supervising the daily protection detail of 12 agents and the immediate protection of Secretary Rumsfeld. Detective Congleton was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his selection as Special Agent of the Year and presented a plaque displaying his accomplishment by Major General Donald J. Ryder. A letter prepared by Secretary Rumsfeld was read during the ceremony congratulating Detective Congleton on his accomplishments and selection as the Special Agent of the Year. Detective Congleton has served with the Oldham County Police Department since 1997.
