OLDHAM COUNTY POLICE

Press Release

On Monday, August 06, 2007, at approximately 15:45, Oldham County Police were dispatched to a burglary in progress call at a residence in Hickory Hill Subdivision, across from Fendley Road on north 393. Oldham County Officers Howley, Flynn, and Douglas, along with Sergeant Congleton arrived in the area and were informed by neighbors that one black male and one white male had fled into the wooded area south of the subdivision with items from the residence.  Officer Howley went into the woods on foot while Officer Flynn proceeded in his vehicle to patrol the 393 area. Officer Flynn spotted the perpetrators in the back yard of a residence on 393.  Officer Flynn gave pursuit on foot and Officer Douglas pursued, covering the perpetrator’s flank. The perpetrators ran right to Officer Douglas who had held them at gunpoint until Sergeant Congleton arrived on scene. The perpetrators were taken into custody without incident.

A third black male, later identified as Cord Johnson, was seen driving away from the area by witnesses after dropping the other two males off. A BOLO was put out to LaGrange units who located the car and the perpetrator. Sergeant Conway and Officer David Stratton of the LaGrange Police Department stopped the suspect vehicle and had to Taser the suspect while taking him into custody.

Items taken from the residence were a DVD player, a child’s wallet with change in it, and some jewelry. All items were recovered. The homeowners, Randy and Valerie Gordon were out of town at the time of the incident and were later notified by Oldham County Police of the incident.

After interviewing all suspects, it was determined that this was an independent occurrence, as a crime of “opportunity”, and no indication that these suspects have had any involvement in any other burglaries in the county.  Apparently, there was a young female house sitting for the victim and had invited one of the perpetrators (Josh Sombroff) over to the residence the day before.  Sombroff apparently left a window unlocked and entered the residence with the other two perpetrators while the female was away from the residence.
