Applications:

Applications for the Oldham County Police Department are accepted year round and may be picked up at the Oldham County Police Department located at 1855 North Highway 393 in Buckner, Kentucky or obtained online.  Applicants selected shall be placed on an "Applicant Eligibility List"  for consideration as openings occur.  The eligibility list will be maintained for one (1)  year after its certification by the Oldham County Police Merit Board.
 

Examples of Work:

Attends classes in personnel procedures, police regulations, current laws, the criminal justice system, human behavior and a variety of other topics related to police work.  Works in various operational bureaus to provide additional manpower and gain familiarity with the functions of the Oldham County Police Department.  Participates in practical training of firearm usage, driving, self-defense, arrest procedures, use of police equipment and a variety of other procedures and activities related to police work.  Takes tests to measure knowledge gained, evaluate performance and determine progress made.  Performs related work.
 

Working Conditions:

 

Lifts and/or moves heavy objects or persons in the course of rescue activities.  Physically restrains persons in the course of law enforcement activities.  Chases suspects on foot in the course of law enforcement/criminal apprehension activities.  Works outside in all extreme weather conditions.  Operates police vehicles during the day and night; observes criminal actions taking place; observes traffic violations; and reviews and prepares reports and correspondence.  Communicates with other individuals in person, over a telephone, and over a radio.
 

Position Requirements:

 

Must have been employed as a full time sworn Police Officer in the United States in the last twelve months with a minimum of one year sworn Police Officer experience. AND Must have completed the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council's (KLEC) approved required Basic Training Course.  Note: If an out-of-state applicant, the following documentation must be submitted: A copy of the topics and hours of Police Basic Training taken; documentation that shows the training was successfully completed; documentation that the training was certified or approved by the Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) agency in the state where the training was taken; and documentation that the applicant was certified as a law enforcement officer in the state where the basic training was taken.  This out-of-state information will be evaluated for certification by the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training.
 

Special Requirements:

 

Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be 21 years of age or older.  Must not have been convicted of a felony or have any criminal action pending against them.  Misdemeanor convictions will be considered on an individual basis.  Must not have an accumulation of nine or more points for traffic violations.  Must possess a valid driver's license. Must pass a pre-employment medical examination.  Must not be a current user of illegal drugs.  Must not have bought, sold or possessed marijuana within three years prior to time of application; or bought, sold or possessed any controlled substance or narcotic drug without a prescription within six years prior to time of application.  Must pass a test for drug detection.  Must take a oral psychological evaluation.  Must take a pre-employment polygraph examination.  Must pass a pre-employment physical agility test.  Must not be prohibited by federal or state law from possessing a firearm.  Must have received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions if having served in any branch of the armed forces of the United States.  Must not have had certification as a peace officer permanently revoked in another state.  Must be vaccinated for hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunity, or have signed a declination form within ten days of initial assignment.  Must wear protective and/or safety equipment as mandated by OSHA.  Must work a varied work schedule.
